Beatriz Azevedo’s new album is an authorial project that features new songs and guest appearances by Moreno Veloso, Zélia Duncan and actor Matheus Nachtergaele.

The album A.G.O.R.A was recorded at Biscoito Fino studios in Rio de Janeiro and brings together great musicians such as Bem Gil (guitars), Cristóvão Bastos (piano and accordion), Jaques Morelenbaum (Violoncello), Jorge Helder (Contrabass), among others.

The disc also features the participation of Cyro Baptista, who recorded in New York several instruments collected on his world tours with Sting and Yo Yo Ma.

“Faced with the country’s troubled moment, I felt the urgency of the call for creation. I wrote poems and songs to put art, poetry and beauty in an increasingly crude and stupid world”, comments Beatriz.

A.G.O.R.A completes the trilogy of albums released by the label, which started with ALEGRIA (2008), and followed with ANTROPOPHAGIA (2014). It is not by chance that all album titles start and end with the letter “a”: Beatriz Azevedo is a poet and in each work she shows extreme care with words.

Along with Beatriz, the award-winning actor Matheus Nachtergaele appears for the first time singing on a disc, interpreting the composition of his friend Beatriz in French, with whom he has already shared the stages. Moreno Veloso and Zélia Duncan, in addition to Beatriz’s partners, appear playing and singing on several tracks on the album.

In “Toda Musa”, Zélia played her famous mandolin, an instrument that has accompanied her for decades on stages and studios.

In “Canto”, in partnership with Beatriz and Moreno, Caetano Veloso’s first-born son plays the guitar and the famous percussion in the dish, used in samba in Bahia and in Santo Amaro da Purificação. Moreno Veloso also sings the song “De Repente”, composed by Beatriz.

PhD in Performing Arts at UNICAMP and Master in Comparative Literature at USP, Beatriz Azevedo studied music at the Mannes College of Music, in New York, and dramaturgy at Sala Beckett, in Barcelona. Her book Antropofagia Palimpsesto Selvagem (Cosac Naify) has a preface by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro and drawings by Tunga. Author of the Stone Age (Iluminuras) and Peripatético (Iluminuras) poetry books, in addition to several theatrical texts, Beatriz Azevedo has her new book of poems, Abracadabra, launched by the Selo Demônio Negro.

“The songs navigate through different sound experiments and musical waves – in fact, the term naviga falls very well to describe the sensations that the album provokes, ranging from deep oceans to calm rivers of native forest”, defines Beatriz, who leads us like a mermaid singing with harmony, strength and passion.
